Kindergarten got their first taste of computer programming with Bee-Bots, which helps young students explore directional language, sequencing, and problem solving! 🐝🤖

Over four days this semester, Class VIII students from #marymountny and @saintdavidsnyc collaborated to bring the text of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to the stage. Students participated in scene study workshops with professional Broadway artists and university professors, exploring text analysis, fight choreography, movement, rhythm, and language. Now in its fourth year, this cross-curricular partnership culminated in a final performance of student work. 🎭👏

Marymount was thrilled to host 300 educators at the @girlsschools conference on Friday at our Upper Campus! Ten #marymountny teachers shared their expertise as presenters at the conference, and many more attended sessions that helped them grow in their craft. A wonderful day of professional development for this enthusiastic team of lifelong learners!

Today was one of our favorite days at #marymountny: the Invention Convention! Class II students worked in teams to create an innovative product that solved an everyday problem and then created an advertisement to market their invention. The project culminated in today’s showcase for parents and peers. 👏🙌💙

Class I students got a special visit today from our Upper School exchange students from Medellin, Madrid, Cuernavaca, and Rome! After touring the Fifth Avenue campus, they got to spend some time working together with our younger students on fun math problems 💙💙

Upper Campus students created a banner with notes of care and hope for our sisters at Marymount LA that will be sent to them along with the $12,000 our community raised for their Fire Relief Fund. Thank you to the #marymountny community for your generous support of our recent Denim Day!

Our Class I students studied the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and dreamed of how they hope to change the world as well! 💙🙏

Class II students took the stage at Carnegie Hall today during a Musical Explorers concert that showcased a wide range of global music! 🌎🎶💃

Last week Class X students spent time reflecting on service and sisterhood on retreat at the Loyola Retreat Center in Morristown, New Jersey! 💙💙

Class IX Biology and Digital Fabrication students collaborated on an interdisciplinary project in December. Students researched the cells that make up different organs and created laser-cut images of those cells to illustrate their findings.

Meet Sydney Wilcenski, a new physical education teacher at the Upper Campus! Ms. Wilcenski grew up in New Jersey and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend undergrad at Loyola University Maryland and graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught elementary general and special education in Maryland before moving to NYC. In her free time, you can find her playing volleyball 🏐 or crafting 🧶 She also loves a good book 📚 and is always open to recommendations! Ms. Wilcenski is elated to be joining the #marymountny team and can’t wait to work with all of the kids! A warm welcome to Ms. Wilcenski! 💙🦁💙

Meet Yoshiko Maruiwa, the new art teacher for Classes K-II! She is originally from Japan 🇯🇵 and moved to the US to pursue her passion for art education. She earned degrees from Sophia University in Tokyo, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. With extensive experience teaching art in museums, communities, and schools, Ms. Maruiwa is excited to bring joy, creativity, and expertise to her new role. Outside of teaching, she enjoys weaving and sewing 🪡 traveling ✈️ visiting museums 🖼️ animals 🐶 beaches 🏖️ and, most of all, cooking 🧑‍🍳 and sharing meals with her family and friends. Ellie Burns joins the #marymountny community teaching Contemporary World History as well as Class X Global History. She was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Georgia and attended Haverford College for undergrad. Ms. Burns majored in history and religion and played varsity soccer ⚽️ before returning to Georgia to teach high school history. She then came to New York for her master’s at Teachers College at Columbia University and loved New York so much she decided to stay! Ms. Burns is excited to become part of both the Upper Mid and Upper School faculty. In her free time, you can find Ms. Burns running 🏃‍♀️ through New York, reading 📖 in Central Park, or trying a new coffee ☕️ shop. A warm welcome to Ms. Burns! 💙🦁💙

Mrs. Frommert brings 24 years of experience teaching secondary math in both international schools and an all-girls Catholic school in Houston. Her love for educational collaboration and leadership extends beyond the classroom, serving as an administrator and as a published author in education. In August, Mrs. Frommert moved to NYC with her husband, daughter, and their beloved Sheltie dog. As a new Marymount parent, she appreciates the warm welcome from the #marymountny community. Seven #marymountny Upper Schoolers joined students from @marymount.cuernavaca and @marymountla for the first RSHM Social Service Week last month in Mexico. They engaged in community service initiatives including supporting kids at a children’s home and at an orphanage, serving breakfast at a local St. Vincent de Paul center, and spending time with retired nuns at an elder care facility. This global initiative allowed our students to truly live out the RSHM mission “that all may have life, and have it to the full.” #careservelead

This year #marymountny became one of the first schools to offer the Atherton Award in recognition of entrepreneurial spirit in young women 🏆 Brianna F. ‘25 was named the winner for her innovative ideas to streamline services and improve revenue for the MTA! Eight Upper School student-athletes traveled to Medellin over break to participate in a sports festival with other RSHM schools. In addition to friendly competition in 🏐⚽️🏀, students spent time connecting with their global peers from @istitutomarymount @marymountrome @marymountbarranquilla @marymountbogota and @marymountschoolmedellin. Congratulations to Rose S. ‘30 (🥉 in 200IM) and Skyler M. ‘30 (🥉 in 100Fly, 🥉 in 200Free relay, 🥈 in 400Free relay) for their amazing performances at the 2024 MR Short Course Junior Mets Championship last weekend! Rose and Skyler will also be competing at the end of March at the esteemed Eastern Zones Championships, one of four swimming zones in USA. Go girls! 🏊‍♂️💪👏

What a joy it was to watch Class VII students don Elizabethan garb and recite the words of Shakespeare in their fabulous productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream last week! 🎭

We love to see our @mmtalumnae continue their lifelong love of learning with a master class in financial literacy! Taught by beloved Upper School teacher Dr. Cornelis, all alum taking this class will receive a Bloomberg Market Concepts certification upon completion of the course. 📈💪👏
