STEAM Camps for 2nd-5th Graders
STEAM Camp immerses campers in the study of natural sciences including chemistry, astronomy, biology and physics alongside a creative technology curriculum in coding, programming, engineering, and digital design. STEAM Camp is perfect for campers looking for a challenging, creative, and comprehensive experience that extends beyond their academic year. Using their imaginations and a wide variety of materials, campers will design their own inventions and solve problems both independently and collaboratively. In Marymount’s state-of-the-art laboratories and makerspaces, campers will question, explore, and understand their world through an enlightening variety of scientific and technological lenses. Experienced science teachers and multimedia experts facilitate a challenging and innovative program of study using hands-on experimentation and technology.
Week 1 (6/23-6/27): Invention Convention
Join for a week of creativity, innovation, and hands-on fun at STEAM camp! We will dive into the world of simple machines, and explore the fundamentals of levers, pulleys, gears, and more. As budding engineers, campers will design and invent their own machines to solve real work problems. Prepare for a week of building, brainstorming, and bringing ideas to life – the possibilities are endless!
Week 2 (6/30-7/3): Reactions in Action
Get ready for a week of bubbling, fizzing, and explosive fun while exploring the world of physical and chemical reactions. From creating colorful chemical reactions to exploring the magic of the states of matter, campers will gain hands-on experience while learning the science behind everyday reactions. With each experiment, they will observe how materials transform and ignite curiosity. It’s time to watch science come to life during an unforgettable week studying reactions in action!
Week 3 (7/7-7/11): Shoot for the Moon!
Blast off into a week of out-of-this-world fun while we explore the world of outer space at STEAM camp! Our space-themed adventure will take campers on a journey through the science of space exploration. Through hands-on activities, campers will learn about physical and chemical changes that happen in space, from rocket propulsion to the wonders of zero gravity. Kids will design and launch their own rockets and discover how astronauts live and work in space. Campers will reach for the stars as they explore the exciting science behind space travel. Get ready to shoot for the moon and beyond!
Week 4 (7/14-7/18): Building and Robotics
Rev up your engines and get ready for an exciting week studying building and robotics! Campers will dive into the world of engineering and robotics, where they’ll learn how to build, design, and program their own machines. From constructing simple vehicles to creating robotic systems, kids will gain hands-on experience with gears, motors, and coding to bring their creations to life. Whether they’re building a robot that can race, move, or even complete tasks, campers will explore the technology behind things that go! It’s a thrilling week of innovation and invention where creativity takes the wheel. Let’s build something amazing together!
Week 5 (7/21-7/25): Need for Speed! Forces in Motion
Get ready to race into the world of physics while we study forces in motion during week 5 of STEAM camp! This action-packed week will have campers exploring the science behind speed, motion, and forces. Through exciting hands-on experiments and challenges, kids will learn about friction, velocity, acceleration, and the power of different forces as they design and test their own vehicles, ramps, and racing contraptions. Whether they’re launching cars, building track systems, or discovering how forces affect motion, campers will experience the thrill of science in motion. Buckle up for a fast-paced week of discovery, engineering, and speed!
