Required for students in Class VIII and open to students in Classes IX-XII*. Enrollment is for the year.
(*Interested Model Congress alumnae may take on positions of leadership, serve as mentors, and participate in the Model Congress Meeting as chairpersons.)
Extending the work in their Contemporary World course, students in Class VIII meet weekly with mentors and moderators to discuss issues of public policy and to examine the working of the federal government. Students identify areas of particular interest and then research and write bills to be presented and debated at the annual Packer Collegiate Model Congress regional meeting in April. Students practice argument, analysis, structured and open debate, parliamentary procedure, and oral presentation. This activity is required for all Class VIII students and is excellent preparation for such activities as Model UN, Mock Trial, and Forensics.
