Marymount’s drama program includes the Marymount Players, the Set Design and Tech Club, and the Drama Club.
Marymount Players
Open to students in Classes VIII-XII.
The Marymount Players, the school’s acting ensemble, perform in the fall play and the spring musical. Students in Classes VIII – XII are invited to participate and may audition for one or both shows. The rehearsal period runs from September-November for the fall play and from January-April for the Spring Musical. Rehearsals are held Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Students may also be required to attend some Saturday rehearsals. Students participating in the Marymount Players may not join a varsity team sport the same semester they are performing in a play.
Set Design & Tech Club
Open to Students in Classes VIII-XII. Enrollment is by semester.
Members of this club are involved in all aspects of Upper School dramatic productions except acting. Working in close collaboration with the Drama Club and the production staff, students design and build sets, design lighting, and operate lighting and sound equipment. Membership requires active participation in all regularly scheduled meetings of the club, at which time much hands-on work takes place. Students have the opportunity to take on larger roles that may require attendance at many or all rehearsals of a production. Members participate in Drama Club’s activities when not preparing for a production.
Drama Club
Open to students Classes VIII-XII. Enrollment is by semester.
The Drama Club explores various aspects of theatre, holding workshops on improvisation, writing plays, scene study, voice, movement, and directing. With insight gained from guest speakers from the world of theater, members perform scenes during and outside of club time. Drama Club also assists the Set Design and Tech Club with the fall play and spring musical and support their classmates in the English-Speaking Union’s Shakespeare Competition. The Drama Club also organizes and runs the Arts Assembly in the early spring and, in alternate years, co-sponsors an Arts Week; both provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents.
