Guidelines and requirements for the Writing Portfolio are as follows:
At the beginning of Class X, English teachers will introduce the writing portfolio process. During the year, teachers will remind students to maintain both “hard copy” and electronic files of their writing.
At the end of both the Class X and XI years, students will gather drafts of the work they have completed during the school year and compile a list of each piece of writing for the year. Teachers will collect the list. Students should keep a copy for themselves.
During her Class XII year, each student will review the pieces in her portfolio. The final portfolio will include a minimum of six and a maximum of eight pieces of writing. Writing samples will include a minimum of one piece from each of the following three categories: (a) personal narrative/personal essay, (b) expository essay/literary analysis, (c) creative (e.g., poem, short story, dramatic monologue). Additional writing samples are selected at the discretion of the student but must include at least one piece from each year, X-XII. One portfolio piece must include evidence of global revision (i.e., pre-writing, notes and outlines, drafts, etc.). Additional writing may include one work not assigned at school or work completed for another discipline.
Each student’s portfolio will begin with a written reflection about her journey as a writer and her selection of pieces in the porttfolio.
Class XII students will submit their Writing Portfolio to their English teacher anytime after April 6th but no later than April 15th.
