Dear Parents,
Walking Safety Patrol for Marymount is an important community service requirement asked of parents with children in New York City independent schools. Consistent with the policies of other schools, parents’ participation in the Safety Patrol program organized by Marymount is mandatory.
In addition to Marymount parents walking Safety Patrol, parents from other independent schools are walking Safety Patrol on the blocks in close proximity to their schools. Together the schools form a strong “neighborhood watch” network that helps to keep all of our children safe. Although incidents have been few, parents walking Safety Patrol in the past successfully intervened when they saw a man approach and threaten a young girl on Madison Avenue just blocks from her school.
At Marymount, each family in Classes I – IX is obligated to walk just once a year. Families are randomly selected and assigned a date and a walking partner from within the same grade level. On your walking date, please arrive at the reception desk of the Middle School at 2 East 82nd Street by 3:10 p.m. There you will sign-in, get instructions, put on a bright orange “Safety Patrol” vest, and begin walking promptly at 3:15 p.m. You may be asked to return to the Middle School at specific times in order to escort some of the girls to the Fifth Avenue building for their after school activities. Each walk ends at 5:00 p.m. at 2 East 82nd Street.
Walkers assigned to our new 97th Street Campus should report to 116 East 97th Street to sign in, put on their orange vests and be ready to begin walking promptly at 3:15 p.m. A walking map is provided here.
The calendar of assignments is available online throughout the year. Safety Patrol Chairs Gabriele Owsnitzki and Diana Faillace will be working with your Class Representatives to alert you to the walking schedule and to answer any questions that you may have regarding the program. Your participation in this program is essential to ensure the safety of all of our students.
We look forward to your continued support of this important community initiative in the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Concepcion R. Alvar
