Middle School

MSstudent1The goal of academic excellence provides the framework for the Middle School. Our teachers welcome the diverse interests of young adolescents and structure a curriculum to channel their energies and natural love of learning. Each student is encouraged to develop and pursue personal areas of interest, to think honestly and critically about the world around her, and to acquire a genuine sense of social responsibility in school, at home, and in her community. The integrated core curriculum gradually increases in degree of departmentalization at each class level. Challenging learning activities and flexible groupings in main subject areas ensure that students achieve their full potentials. Organization, time management, and study skills are taught in all subject areas. Learning strategies such as note taking, outlining, and schematic mapping are a focus within the disciplines.

Spanning all grade levels, disciplines and programs where appropriate, technology is used to support and enhance the educational endeavors at Marymount. Middle School classrooms are equipped with laptop computers for each student. Students are encouraged to develop the understanding, self-confidence, and skills needed to use the appropriate tools; learn to adapt to innovative technologies; and use technology effectively and efficiently. Middle School students continue to learn about the complexities of the world of finance and acquire tools to help them achieve financial awareness and independence through the interdisciplinary financial literacy curriculum. Museum visits are thematically integrated into the curriculum using art throughout the city as a vehicle for deepening conceptual understanding and enhancing critical thinking.

Participation in assemblies, cross-divisional gatherings, and Big Sister/Little Sister activities, drama productions, liturgies, chapel services, school and community service, clubs, and the after school elective program promote a well-rounded school life.
