For the 2009-10 year, Marymount School of New York has elected to focus on Goal 1 of the Goals and Criteria for the RSHM Schools: To foster a personal relationship with God.
The goal is reflected in our Marymount mission statement in which we pledge ourselves to “give all students a deeper understanding of the role of the spiritual in life.” As the Marymount community is home to a wide variety of spiritual perspectives, we will encourage not only personal spiritual growth, but also a deeply respectful awareness of the beliefs of others. Believing that each person has some degree of spirituality, we encourage those who identify themselves as “nonbelievers” to take time this year to reflect upon what is good within themselves and find ways to cultivate that goodness and to learn about others’ beliefs.
We hope that the entire Marymount family, through embracing this year’s goal, will find added strength and wisdom in continuing our joyful, if at times daunting, commitment to “challenge, shape, and change” the world.
